The Spotlight’s On… JohnnyBlackPhotography

If you live in the Portsmouth area and use social media, the chances are you’ve come across Johnny Black at some point. Black is constantly interacting with other users, helping to promote and enhance them on social media, so when two of the DigitalDinos team took a trip to his excellent shop in Southsea, we thought we’d find out what makes Johnny Black tick…

Johnny Black is an award winning photographer, and with beautiful shots like this it’s no surprise why…

1) Can You Describe Your Business?

I’m a wedding and portrait photographer, but also cover corporate and commercial photography. I have a passion for portraits but am most known for my landscape photos of Portsmouth. I don’t think there is anything in my photos that set me aside, but my passion for what I do is very evident for all to see.

Black captures memories to last a lifetime.

2) Where are you based?

I am based in Portsmouth, in Southsea where I have a shop/office at 1, St.Vincent Road, Southsea PO52QR it’s called Johnny Black Photography.

Black’s landscape photography has gained recognition throughout Portsmouth

3) How are you finding being based there?

For me it’s the perfect location, I have great footfall from Palmeston road to Albert road and the local community have been really welcoming. I’m right opposite Victoriana, 50m from the new Strong Island clothing store and all the shops in Marmion road.

Black’s beautiful photography is earning the recognition it deserves.

4) How do you market your business? Are you online?

I marketed myself solely online through social media, I have Instagram, Twitter and Facebook pages and of course now with the shop I have a physical presence that came about through doing the Love Southsea markets every month in Palmeston Road.

5) What are you plans for the future?

To build the business up so that I am busy but not stressed, I have a few ideas that are coming together and a couple of people that I’m working with to get more work outside of Portsmouth. I’m also going to be giving the office over to Local photographers such as Howard Hurd, Jon Tyrell and Andy Five Architects, as a weekend PopUp exhibition.

Black’s on the other side of the camera this time for a photo with adventurer Bear Grylls
