“SEO is the practice of optimising websites to make them reach a high position in Google’s – or other search engines’ – organic search results.”

SEO (or Search Engine Optimisation) is a term thrown around in every marketing/website meeting ever, usually accompanied by a collective murmur of ‘yes, yes, SEO, I’ve heard we need that…’ which then inevitably comes to nothing as (understandably) no one is quite sure where to start when it comes to tackling the daunting task of climbing Google’s rankings.

Here’s an example. We can see the organic results for a quick search of ‘New Car’ into Google. You’ll see the 3 top results are paid for adverts which I can’t imagine were cheap from Nissan, Mini and Westover Group.

Someone at Evans Halshaw, however, is doing a stellar job when it comes to optimising the group’s website to rank higher on Google and other search engines!

Why is SEO So Important?

We love SEO and there are a number of reasons why!

1.) The first is that it’s cost effective. You can easily pay £50 per click with Google Ad Words and even up to £200 per click in some industries which, unless you have the marketing budget of Nike, is absurd!

By improving your SEO, you will rank just as well as the sponsored ads, without paying a penny per click!

Now, you can just sit on your high horse and watch the others battle it out in the ads section while you rake in the organic traffic and generate leads for free.

2.) The second reason is this: if you’ve spent months, maybe even a whole year, perfecting the look, feel, UX and performance of your website, you want to have as many people using it as possible right?! Without SEO, how will anyone ever find your website unless you’re constantly shoving it in their faces?

If you’ve got a beautiful website, make sure people use it and work on your SEO.

3.) Lastly, it’s a great marketing and sales technique. By utilising SEO to appear in relevant searches, you’ll dramatically increase your lead generation (provided your website is optimised in terms of user experience) and overall sales performance as you’re getting in front of the right people who are looking for companies just like yours!
